Before we started airbnb, our now luxurious double room was a short lived kids toy room. We never had a toy room before so Fiona was really excited about it, more so than the kids in fact! They hardly noticed when we converted it from a toy room to a grown up guest room!
It was an easy room to make nice. It boasted high ceilings, tiled original floors and had a vintage style en-suite.
As time and visitors went by, we added to the room bit by bit and guests were always happy with the room although we always knew it had more potential. Then recently we had discussed a complete make over and plans for decorating the room……on a budget of course. Soon enough we were down the market with Fiona’s brother and family who were over at the time.
We both spotted bed lockers and matching chester drawers that would be perfect and both looked at each other and thought yep, they are exactly what we are looking for! I started the negotiations and was very happy with the price. I had the great help of my brother in law and nephew and got them lifting, placed in the transport van and back with care.
We chose an Edwardian green color that we felt gave an relaxing feel to the room. There was a few items required yet, a wardrobe was high up there! I was on my own at the market when I spotted this poor old worn out wardrobe which was in pieces on the ground. I could see the detail on it and the size I knew was ideal. It required some time and affection! I got it home, presented it to Fiona who (thankfully) loved it, and I got straight to work sanding it down and then waxing it (thanks for the tip Mum) to get it back to its former glory. WOW, one of our favorite items of furniture now for sure. It turned out amazing, see it in the photo here!
Our luxury room was now ready, and looked beautiful. Our latest item we picked up last week which suits the room perfectly was a chandelier. This piece finishes it off to a high quality so we now feel it is entitled to have ‘luxurious’ in its title!
Not only did we now have a room that was perfect and felt like an old world classical hotel room with style and warmth but we could also raise our rate. The day after the increase we had a reservation request for 11 nights for 3 people.
This meant that the increased amount paid for the make over and it didn’t cost us anything apart from time.
So guys, whilst it would be nice, you don’t need to go out and get an interior designer in to do your whole house but it is important to
invest some of your airbnb money back in to your space,
even if it’s just keeping it fresh, new towels, or a lick of paint just make sure it doesn’t become tired and worn, and your guest can walk in and enjoy a bit of luxury, and if you do it right you can also increase you price and earn some more from your space
